PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSISTANT (PTA) – PHYSICAL THERAPY

The Center for Rehabilitation Medicine offers an opportunity for a dynamic team oriented Physical Therapist. Our 36-bed CARF accredited Rehabilitation Unity has been providing care for over 30 years. Specialty programs include stroke spinal cord injury and therapeutic pool. Rotations are available throughout the continuum.

The Physical Therapist Assistant will work closely with the Physical Therapist to implement the individualized treatment plan.  Will work with patients ranging in age from adolescent to geriatric. The department offers a multi-level career ladder with strong education and mentoring programs. 


Responsibilities
  • Administers Physical Therapy treatments or portions thereof, as planned and directed by a registered Physical Therapist, to a patient population with varied diagnoses.
  • Age range treated includes pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Staff will be assigned only age ranges for which they meet education, experience, and training.
  • Assists the Physical Therapist in the performance of complex tests and treatment procedures.
  • Follows established procedures in the use of physical treatment modalities, therapeutic exercise, and the use of adaptive equipment, utilizing evidence-based practice as appropriate.
  • Provides patient/family/Care Partner/caregiver education, initiating as soon as feasible after admission.
  • Works to ensure patient/family/Care Partner/caregiver transfer of knowledge using a variety of techniques (i.e. teach back, demonstration, video, written handouts).
  • Accepts responsibility for patient's safety and personal care throughout the treatment.
  • Follows precautions, observes patient's responses to treatment, and reports unusual occurrences to the primary Physical Therapist.
  • Follows handoff guidelines.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of discharge plans, including necessary equipment, in a timely manner.
  • Acts as Clinical Instructor for Physical Therapist Assistant students.
  • Represents and promotes Physical Therapy to hospital staff, volunteers, patients, and visitors through a positive attitude and effective communication skills.
  • Maintains high professional standards of ethics, knowledge, skill, performance, and conduct through participation in performance improvement and active learning.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of 2 yrs. experience as a practicing PTA including demonstrated teaching responsibilities and evidence of continued education required.
  • Graduate of an approved school for Physical Therapist Assistants or equivalence by licensing board required. The academic curriculum will include coursework on growth and development, gerontology and therapeutic procedures for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
  • New grads welcome.
  • Current State of California Physical Therapist Assistant licensure required. (LIC PTA)
  • Current AHA BLS
  • Fire Safety cards required (obtain 90 days from start date). 


This position is represented by SEIU-UHW and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
