The Registered Nurse implements the nursing process within CHI St. Francis and across the continuum of care by providing and coordinating patient care, education, and emotional support to patients and their family members.   

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

1. Responsible for the daily care of the patient including admissions, assessments, treatments, medications, education and discharge planning.  Develops, implements and modifies the patient care plan as indicated by patient’s conditions and responses.  Uses multidisciplinary team strategies to resolve patient problems
2. Administer medications using barcode scanning
3. Ensures all required documentation completed in ORM within Meditech for all surgical patients  
4. Demonstrates adequacy in EDM tracker and PCS
5. Respectful and effective communication with all patient populations, physicians, and across all areas of continuum of care
6. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with Safe Patient Handling techniques
7. Maintains continuity among nursing teams by accurate hand off and documentation in the EMR
8. Knowledge of and implementation of isolation techniques
9. Ensures operation of equipment by completing competency checklists; sequestering and completing appropriate TEAM requests for malfunctioning equipment.  Evaluates new equipment, follows safety guidelines for clinical devices
10. Assures quality of care by adhering to quality control requirements
11. Initiation and Management of IV therapy; safely administers blood and blood products per facility protocol
12. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by completion of Pathways assignments, attending mandatory in-services, annual competencies, and educational assignments to maintain and further the profession of nursing and personal growth
13. Maintains acceptable clinical standards (AORN, AAMI, APIC, ACS, etc.)
14. Demonstrates professionalism when working with physicians and other providers
15. Dependable for scheduled shifts
16. Facilitates and assists in the coordination of patient discharge and referrals
17. Participates in the orientation and training of new personnel
18. Directs and supervises less-skilled nursing or healthcare personnel, including clinical students
19. Willing to float to other skilled nursing departments when there are staffing needs, specifically Med/Surg and ED
